Different Types of Braces in Ontario
Whether your primary concern is budget or aesthetics, at Village Orthodontics we offer different types of braces to meet the needs of each unique smile.
Conventional Braces
Conventional braces consist of metal brackets attached to the teeth and connected to each other by wire. Periodic adjustments by your orthodontist alters the pressure applied by your braces, gradually bringing teeth and jaws into alignment. Conventional braces effectively treat many complex cases.
Translucent Braces
Translucent braces are made up of ceramic (tooth coloured) brackets rather than conventional metal. This allows translucent braces to blend well with your natural tooth colour making them appear translucent when worn. The overall look of translucent braces is more discreet than metal brackets.
Coloured Braces
Coloured braces are similar to conventional braces but with the addition of tiny rubber bands or elastics fitted around each of the brackets. These elastics are changed every 4 to 6 weeks at your adjustment appointments. That means you can have fun switching up the colour of your braces to match your mood.
Lingual Braces
Lingual braces are hidden behind the teeth and are therefore not visible when you smile. They are 100% customized to match the shape of your teeth; the metal appliances are created uniquely for you. Lingual braces are a very reasonable option for athletes, models, actors/actresses, musicians who play wind instruments, and adult professionals.
Self-Ligating Braces
Self-ligating braces come with traditional metal, ceramic, or clear brackets. They are typically the same size as metal braces, but use a specialized clip in place of elastics to help the archwire guide teeth into their corrected positions. The clip helps reduce the amount of pressure placed on the tooth, and requires fewer adjustments because there are no elastics to replace.
Clear Aligners
Clear aligners are a series of custom made transparent plastic forms that straighten teeth without brackets and wires. Simply change to a new set of aligners every couple of weeks as prescribed by your Ontario orthodontist.
