The Invisalign® Journey

If you have decided that Invisalign® is the right orthodontic treatment option for you, our orthodontists at Village Orthodontics share what you can expect from your Invisalign® journey from start to finish.

If you're thinking about Invisalign as a treatment option for crooked, gapped, or misaligned teeth, you're probably wondering what to expect from the procedure. Our orthodontists at Village Orthodontics are here to walk you through the process and help you decide if this orthodontic option is right for you.

We explain exactly what you can expect from your Invisalign journey so there are few surprises if you do decide to go forward with treatment.

The Consultation

You will begin your journey by scheduling a Invisalign® consultation with your orthodontist. At the consultation, your orthodontist will complete an exam that will include digital X-rays, a bite registration (how your upper and lower teeth fit together), dental impressions, and photos of your teeth.

After gathering all of your information, you and your orthodontists will review your diagnosis and discuss your treatment options. Your orthodontist will issue you a prescription that details the current state of your teeth, how you'll be treated, and what changes you can expect as a result of your tooth alignment.

The Decision

If you and your orthodontist decide that Invisalign is the right choice for you, your orthodontist will send your information (including your dental impressions) to Align Technology where Invisalign technicians will create a digital 3D model of your teeth.

They will also create an animation of your teeth at the start of your journey and how you can expect them to look at the end. Production on your custom Invisalign trays will begin once you approve the animation, which could take up to four weeks.

The Aligners

Once your aligners are ready, you can pick them up at your orthodontist's office. Your orthodontist will ensure that your aligners fit properly before you take them home.

Although your Invisalign aligners are removable, our Village Orthodontics orthodontists recommend you wear them for 20 to 22 hours a day and only remove them for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing.

You will be changing your custom-fit aligners every two weeks until your treatment is finished. You will also meet with your orthodontist every six weeks to monitor your progress and ensure that your treatment is proceeding as planned.

The Results

Provided you have followed your orthodontist's instructions during treatment you should be able to enjoy a straighter smile at the end of the Invisalign process.

Your orthodontist may recommend a retainer to maintain your new smile and to ensure your teeth do not shift from their new positions.
