Dr. Mahtab Nouri received her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences (SBMU) in Tehran, Iran, where she graduated as the top student in her class. She subsequently earned her Master of Science in Orthodontics from the same institution. With a 58-year history of dental education, SBMU is recognized as one of Iran’s leading dental schools.

Dr. Nouri joined the Orthodontic Department at SBMU as a faculty member and, after 26 years of academic service, was appointed Full Professor of Orthodontics. Throughout her academic career, she developed a strong interest in research and innovation and became one of the founders of the Dental Research Centre at SBMU and the Iranian division of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR).

Her research has focused particularly on 3D imaging, digital orthodontics, and clinical support systems. She has published extensively in leading peer-reviewed orthodontic journals, including the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Orthodontics & Craniofacial Research, The Angle Orthodontist, Korean Journal of Orthodontics, Australian Orthodontic Journal, and Progress in Orthodontics. She has also presented her research and lectured at numerous national and international scientific meetings, including meetings of the European Orthodontic Society and IADR held around the world.

From 1995 to 2018, Dr. Nouri maintained a private orthodontic practice in Iran, where she witnessed and embraced the remarkable evolution of orthodontic treatment over more than two decades. Her clinical experience spans the transition from traditional edgewise appliances to straight-wire techniques, temporary anchorage devices (TADs), and contemporary clear aligner therapy.

In 2018, Dr. Nouri was selected as one of three dentists accepted annually in Canada into the University of British Columbia’s Dental Specialty Assessment and Training Program in Orthodontics. Following completion of the program and the required equivalency training, she successfully passed the National Dental Specialty Examination and became a Canadian Board-Certified Orthodontist.

Since 2021, Dr. Nouri has been practicing exclusively in orthodontics in Canada as the sole orthodontist in a busy Toronto practice, treating approximately 400 new patients each year. Her extensive academic background, research experience, and more than three decades of clinical experience allow her to combine evidence-based orthodontics with modern digital technologies and individualized patient care.

Dr. Nouri has also held several leadership and professional positions throughout her career. In 2012, she was elected the first Iranian woman to serve as President of the Iranian Association of Orthodontists. In 2014, she was inducted as a Fellow of the International College of Dentists. She has served as a consultant to the Dental Health Bureau of the Ministry of Health in Iran and as a research consultant to the Iranian Medical Council.

In Canada, Dr. Nouri served as a Council Member of the West Toronto Society of the Ontario Dental Association from 2022 to 2026. Since 2024, she has also participated annually in the Brush-a-Mania program, supporting efforts to promote oral health and dental education among children.

Dr. Nouri lives in Toronto with her husband, who is also a dentist, and their two adult children. Her son has followed the family tradition and is also a dentist. Outside of orthodontics, she enjoys practicing yoga, watching television series, and travelling with her family.

With a career spanning academia, research, leadership, and private clinical practice across two countries, Dr. Nouri remains passionate about orthodontics and committed to providing her patients with thoughtful, evidence-based, and modern orthodontic care.
