Braces for Children in Ontario
Could braces improve the health of your child's smile? At Village Orthodontics, we can assess your child's orthodontic health and provide customized solutions.
Orthodontic Treatment For Young Smiles
Dental braces are a time-tested way to correct issues such as misaligned or crowded teeth using a system of brackets and wires.
The kids' braces offered by our orthodontists in Ontario may appear different from the ones you remember. Advances in treatment mean that today's braces are smaller and more comfortable for mouths that are still growing.
Because they are economical and durable, braces can be an effective orthodontic treatment for children. They are also fixed in place, meaning your child won't need to remember to put them back in after brushing or eating.
Our orthodontic braces services for children can address a range of problems, including bite issues and extreme overcrowding. They are often part of an overall treatment plan designed specifically to meet your child's needs.
Preventing Future Orthodontic Issues
Using braces to treat your child's problems with bite, tooth alignment and other issues can reduce the risk of poor oral health and future concerns, such as jaw pain and chipped teeth.
The Benefits of Braces for Kids
Braces are often the most effective way to straighten children's teeth and prevent future oral health issues due to misalignment. With traditional braces, we can:
- Shift teeth into alignment to support better brushing and flossing, which helps prevent gum disease
- Promote better chewing and biting of food, which aids digestion
- Help reduce jaw pain and muscle stiffness which can be caused by a misaligned bite or crowded teeth
- Prevent eventual bone erosion due to gaps in teeth
- Potentially avoid severe or recurring oral and overall health problems in the future, such as TMJ disorders and headaches
How Braces For Children Work
Children's braces can play a key role in a proactive approach to your child's orthodontic treatment, not only helping to treat current health issues, but also preventing future problems with your child's teeth, mouth and jaw.
Our Ontario orthodontists will often recommend braces for children with crowded or crooked teeth that require realignment. Braces can also be an effective treatment for crossbite, overbite or underbite issues. A bracket will be attached to each of your child's teeth, then connected to a wire that spans a row of teeth.
Elastic bands may be attached to brackets and stretched between the upper and lower teeth. This treatment approach will gradually shift your child's teeth and jaws into their prescribed positions, typically over a period of about 2 years.
